I meant to say I only feed my males small or medium rats every 3 to 5 weeks. I feed my females large rats or small rabbits every 2 to 3 weeks. They eat a little heavier due to the fact that I feed them really small meals during breeding season .

Well I have had snakes for about 3 years and I always did what I thought was right as far as feeding them. I was told when I got my first snake that to feed her every 2 weeks so thats what I was doing with all my snakes. Now I just found from researching about boas that I was told wrong to begin with. So I am not really stressing about it. He was eating every 2 weeks a large rat unless he was shedding. I am trying to get all my large boas on a once a month feeding schedule. He did have mites at one time and I did the nix lice shampoo mix and cleanned his cage plus sprayed him. I have treated him 2 time already. However the last time I fed him I tried a frozen thawed rat. He usually only eats live but when he grabbed the f/t rat he didnt wrap it up. He just let go of it and wasnt interested. Since then he hasnt eaten. I have been trying to feed him. I even offered him a smaller rat but he is just not interested. He is not stopped up cause he has pooped 2 times since. His cage temp is good. I dont have any bedding in with him just newspaper due to me still treating him for mites. I still have 2 more treatments to do in the next month. I just dont know maybe he just isnt hungry. He has lost some weight but not much he is vey healthy still. I know I had a 3 foot boa that didnt eat for the first 3 months I had her.

I have found with boas that when they refuse to eat then something is wrong. They are not like ball pythons that go off feed regularly. It could be something as small as a change in environment or a slight husbandry issue. Also with him being a male and 6 ft he could just not be hungry. How often and what size food do you feed him. I only feed my boas a small or medium rat every 3 to 5 weeks. I don't like for my males to get over 5 ft. They become lazy breeders then and can be so big they stress a female out. Males aren't suppose to be big they should be lean and much smaller than a female.

I have a 6ft albino Kahl male that has not ate in almost 2 months. I have tried to feed him every 2 weeks but he will not eat. I know sometimes they will go without eating for a few months. I had a boa that wouldnt eat before for 3 months after I got it. He has been offered smaller rats then what he usually eats but is not interested. He usually is a very good eater. He has lost some weight but is still very healthy. Anyone have any ideas? His temps and everything are good. I have him in a custom built cage that has is heated with thermo tape. This cage has 3 8 ft cages boult into one and I have 3 other boas in it. It has deviders built in. All the othere snakes are eating great. I had one that just shed so I know its not the temp or cages. Its just him. He dont seem sick and is very active like usual. I do have a female in the cage above him. I am wondering if maybe he smells her and is getting ready to mate?
